Servo motor servicing for all brands | Repair | Diagnostics | Matris

Servo motor servicing is a specialized service that requires precise technical know-how and experience, as servo motors are complex electromechanical machines used mainly in industrial applications where high precision, performance and reliability are required.

At the Matris Service Centre, service procedures are tailored to the specific engine types and each manufacturer, as well as to the customer’s requirements, allowing high-quality repairs and efficient after-sales service. This is also a good basis for the 24-month warranty option, which is the only one we offer on the Slovenian market.

Servo motor servicing procedure

Servo motor servicing usually involves the following steps:

  1. Diagnostics:

    • Identification of faults, malfunctions, and damage.
    • Testing position encoders (resolvers, encoders or other types of sensors that communicate position)
    • Winding testing (insulation resistance, interphase breakdown)
    • Testing temperature sensors
    • Checking the condition of shafts, bearings, magnets and other mechanical parts.
    • Testing electrical connections (power and signal).
  2. Cleaning:

    • Thorough cleaning of the engine’s internal and external parts, removing dirt, oils and other impurities that can cause damage or malfunctions.
  3. Replacing components:

    • Bearings: replacement of bearings, which are often subject to wear.
    • Position encoders (e.g. encoders): Replacement of a defective position encoder with an identical or equivalent one.
    • Seals and protectors: replacing seals and other protectors that prevent dirt or fluids from entering the engine.
  4. Refurbishment and repairs:

    • Winding: If the winding is damaged, the motor may need rewinding, which means replacing the copper wire in the winding and renewing the insulation.
    • Repair or replacement of shafts: worn or damaged shafts are repaired by welding, grinding or making a new shaft.
    • Bearing bearing repair: if the bearings are damaged or fail under load, the bearing bearing bearing is also damaged and must be renewed.
    • Repair or replacement of magnets: mechanically damaged magnets are replaced with new ones. Demagnetised magnets shall be re-magnetised.
    • Repair or replacement of connectors:In case of damage to the power or signal connector, the connectors shall be replaced. In some cases, it is also possible to replace only the damaged pins in the connector.
    • Repair of covers, flange or casing: various damages to the external parts of the engine that affect the performance, sealing or mounting of the engine shall be repaired or rebuilt.
    • Brake repair: rewinding the brake coils, repairing the brake discs or gears in the brake and adjusting the brake distance to ensure the brake works properly and has sufficient braking torque.
  5. Fine rotor balancing:

    • The rotors of the servo motors are balanced with high precision, ensuring smooth operation without vibration and excessive wear on components.
  6. Setting the position encoder:

    • The position encoders must be correctly adjusted after the motor is assembled to ensure correct operation of the motor in conjunction with its frequency controller or servo drive.
  7. Final control and report:

    • After the service is completed, a test run is carried out and a detailed report is issued detailing the work carried out, the measurements taken and the results of the tests.

Why is servo motor servicing important?

Servo motors are key to precision motion control, so every part of the motor must be in optimum condition. Regular maintenance prevents major breakdowns and ensures longer motor life and better productivity.
